Cengiz Enerji Continued Its Growth in 2025 with a Balanced Generation Approach
With a total installed capacity of 5,744 MW, Cengiz Enerji continued its operations in 2025 with a balanced generation model and investments focused on energy supply security. With its integrated structure, which effectively manages baseload capacity and renewable energy resources within the same system, the company continued to contribute to the continuity and reliability of the energy system.
The structure of the energy sector, which requires supply and demand to be balanced instantaneously, became even more critical in 2025. During this period, Cengiz Enerji managed the baseload capacity provided by its thermal power plants together with hydropower, wind and solar energy through an integrated generation approach. The company’s renewable energy portfolio reached a total installed capacity of 3,274 MW, comprising 2,290 MW of hydropower, 828 MW of solar and 156 MW of wind capacity. Abroad, the 480 MW natural gas-fired power plant in Uzbekistan remained an important component complementing the balanced structure of the portfolio.
AN INTEGRATED APPROACH FROM GENERATION TO DISTRIBUTION
In 2025, Cengiz Enerji also continued to contribute to Türkiye’s energy infrastructure through its electricity distribution activities. Through Boğaziçi Electricity Distribution Inc. (BEDAŞ), Akdeniz Electricity Distribution Inc. (AEDAŞ), Meram Electricity Distribution Inc. (MEDAŞ) and Çamlıbel Electricity Distribution Inc. (ÇEDAŞ), the company continued to ensure the continuity of electricity supply to approximately 20 million people across 13 provinces, primarily on the European side of Istanbul. Within this distribution portfolio, which covers approximately 30% of Türkiye’s total electricity consumption, Cengiz Enerji distributes approximately 54 billion kWh of electricity annually.
BALANCED AND PREDICTABLE GROWTH REMAINED THE FOCUS OF INVESTMENTS IN 2025
For Cengiz Enerji, 2025 was a year in which its growth strategy was supported by a controlled, predictable and long-term approach. The company has a total of 1,160 MW of new installed capacity currently undergoing planning and permitting processes. Of this capacity, 550 MW consists of a natural gas-fired power plant investment to be developed in Uzbekistan, while 610 MW comprises mainly renewable and battery energy storage projects in Türkiye. Some of the projects progressing through permitting and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes are targeted to become operational in 2026.
In wind energy, the company continued its efforts throughout 2025 to increase both capacity and generation efficiency through its investment in a new-generation 7.2 MW wind turbine, one of the largest wind turbines in Türkiye. Beyond expanding its installed capacity, these investments also support Cengiz Enerji’s long-term objectives of ensuring energy supply security and enhancing system flexibility.
HYBRID AND ENERGY STORAGE INVESTMENTS BECAME A STRATEGIC PRIORITY
As renewable energy generation is inherently variable, system balancing and continuity of supply became key priorities for the energy sector in 2025. Within this framework, Cengiz Enerji focused on hybrid and energy storage investments to enhance the resilience of its portfolio. Having commissioned Türkiye’s first hybrid power plant, the company continued hybrid generation at Aşağı Kaleköy with 80 MW of solar capacity in addition to 500 MW of hydropower capacity.
Pre-licensing processes for energy storage power plant investments have been completed, and the projects are expected to be commissioned gradually following the completion of the relevant permitting processes. The national capacity framework of 34,000 MW, designed to meet Türkiye’s energy storage needs over the next 10 years, was closely monitored throughout the year as one of the key references considered in Cengiz Enerji’s investment planning.
CENTRAL ASIA AND THE TURKIC REPUBLICS REMAINED THE FOCUS OF INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENTS
Uzbekistan maintained its position as a priority market in Cengiz Enerji’s international portfolio in 2025. Existing power plants and ongoing investments continue to contribute to the country’s energy supply security while also forming key pillars of the company’s international growth strategy. Cengiz Enerji continues to closely monitor sustainable, long-term investment opportunities that comply with local regulations across different geographies, particularly in Central Asia and the Turkic Republics.
As part of this strategy, Cengiz Enerji also took a strategic step in the Middle East in 2025. Following an agreement signed between an international consortium in which the company participates and Syria’s Ministry of Energy, implementation commenced on projects involving natural gas and solar power plants targeted to reach a total installed capacity of 5,000 MW. The investment is expected to strengthen the region’s energy supply security and contribute to its long-term economic recovery.
INVESTING IN THE ENGINEERS OF THE FUTURE
In 2025, alongside its investments in energy infrastructure, Cengiz Enerji also strengthened its efforts to develop the qualified human resources that will shape the future of the sector. In collaboration with the Ankara Branch of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers (EMO), the company launched the ReAktör mentoring program.
Designed as a tangible example of university–industry collaboration, the program aims to enable young engineers to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world generation environments and prepare more comprehensively for careers in the energy sector. As part of the project, mentoring, field experience and technical facility visits for electrical and electronics engineering students from 11 universities in Ankara are planned to continue in 2026.
